The Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) are an education data management initiative whose purpose is to streamline the understanding of data within and across P-20W institutions and sectors. CEDS includes a common vocabulary complete with standard elements names, definitions, and option sets. This repository contains all the CEDS elements, definitions, option sets and their definitions, and entities and definitions. Its purpose is to expand that vocabulary to meet the needs of every education stakeholder. The expanded vocabulary is then added to the CEDS Integration Data Store and CEDS Data Warehouse – the other two repositories located here.

Use Case Title
Add new elements related to student accommodations
Target Date Needed
ASAP
Use Case Description
When collecting data on a student’s accommodations for testing or instruction, NCDPI collects data on the date the accommodation started and the date the accommodation is set to end or has ended. The CEDS model currently uses the record start and end date to determine the date an accommodation began or ended. For NC’s purposes the record start and end data does not accurately capture the date the accommodation began and ended or is set to end as intended. In many cases, the accommodation began years prior and is set to end in a future year.
Additionally, the grade level associated with an accommodation is collected along with a field to capture clarifying details about the accommodation.
The current CEDS model does not have these four elements. NCDPI would like to bring these four elements to the CEDS community for their inclusion into the model.
