Adding proposal AccessibleFormatType.docx
Having a clear definition of Alternate Format that is standard across states is integral to this collection.
It is important to have an element that defines and operationalizes accessible formats that would be used by students with print disabilities. The definitions for the options add needed clarity.
This is an excellent list of elements that need to be added.
The list of formats and definitions aligns greatly with our efforts in Iowa to help IEP teams determine AEM needs for students. I think this will be helpful to our work.
These definitions provide clarity and ensure we are speaking a common language. This standardization is essential for future efforts.
AccessibleFormatType -updated Braille.docx Updated proposal to include the following language in the option description for braille to include Sec. 300.324 (a) (2) (iii) "(iii) In the case of a child who is blind or visually impaired, provide for instruction in Braille and the use of Braille unless the IEP Team determines, after an evaluation of the child’s reading and writing skills, needs, and appropriate reading and writing media (including an evaluation of the child’s future needs for instruction in Braille or the use of Braille), that instruction in Braille or the use of Braille is not appropriate for the child; Sec. 300.324 (a) (2) (iii)" https://sites.ed.gov/idea/regs/b/d/300.324/a/2/iii
This is for capturing needs not currently supported by the CEDS model. Please do not send or share actual data as examples in this issue or in attachments.
