CEDStandards / CEDS-Elements

The Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) are an education data management initiative whose purpose is to streamline the understanding of data within and across P-20W institutions and sectors. CEDS includes a common vocabulary complete with standard elements names, definitions, and option sets. This repository contains all the CEDS elements, definitions, option sets and their definitions, and entities and definitions. Its purpose is to expand that vocabulary to meet the needs of every education stakeholder. The expanded vocabulary is then added to the CEDS Integration Data Store and CEDS Data Warehouse – the other two repositories located here.

A limitation of this is that students with disabilities who do not have an IEP or 504 but do use accessible formats would not be represented

annettehyde commented 8 months ago

While it is limited to IEP and 504, this is a great first step in the right direction.

By definition, an accessible format is provided to an eligible person, and that eligibility is based on a qualifying disability. Therefore, the provision of an accessible format is initiated via an IEP or 504 plan. This is different than deploying educational materials that meet digital accessibility standards from the beginning. The latter are designed to be usable by all students.

Following email discussions, the stakeholder who initially expressed rejection has now agreed to proceed with the proposed solution.
