CEDStandards / CEDS-Elements

The Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) are an education data management initiative whose purpose is to streamline the understanding of data within and across P-20W institutions and sectors. CEDS includes a common vocabulary complete with standard elements names, definitions, and option sets. This repository contains all the CEDS elements, definitions, option sets and their definitions, and entities and definitions. Its purpose is to expand that vocabulary to meet the needs of every education stakeholder. The expanded vocabulary is then added to the CEDS Integration Data Store and CEDS Data Warehouse – the other two repositories located here.

This is for capturing needs not currently supported by the CEDS model. Please do not send or share actual data as examples in this issue or in attachments.

Use Case Title Add Option to Other Name Type of "Preferred Name"

Use Case Description Working with PESC on the PESC Transcript, it was pointed out that the CEDS IDS data model contains the construct of Other Person Name that includes the Other Name Type. The Other Name Type can then be applied to any of the name fields "First Name", "Last Name", etc. In Other Name Type, two of the existing options are "Preferred Family Name" and "Preferred Given Name". These specifically point out the section of the name that is preferred rather than just having a single option of "Preferred Name" that is then applied to any of the components of name. PESC is looking at adding "Preferred Name" to their listing of name types. Recommend making the same change in CEDS.

Use Case Background Provide information related to why these changes/additions are needed.

Location of Element in the Domain Entity Schema Any where Other Name is listed.

Preferred Name is something SIF supports (be it a bit differently).
