CEDStandards / CEDS-Elements

The Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) are an education data management initiative whose purpose is to streamline the understanding of data within and across P-20W institutions and sectors. CEDS includes a common vocabulary complete with standard elements names, definitions, and option sets. This repository contains all the CEDS elements, definitions, option sets and their definitions, and entities and definitions. Its purpose is to expand that vocabulary to meet the needs of every education stakeholder. The expanded vocabulary is then added to the CEDS Integration Data Store and CEDS Data Warehouse – the other two repositories located here.

Use Case Title Add EDFacts Cohort Graduation Status element to support EDFacts File Specification 151

Use Case Description EDFacts File Specification 151 - Cohorts for Adjusted Cohort Graduation Rate requires that SEAs report on whether students in a cohort graduated with a high school diploma within the allowable time. Given that this requirement is specific to EDFacts and tied to a student’s adjusted cohort graduation rate, the ability to identify this directly through other data elements in CEDS would be difficult so the creation of a specific EDFacts element is necessary to ensure commonality.

Element Name: EDFacts Cohort Graduation Status Element Definition: An indication of whether students in a cohort graduated with a high school diploma within the allowable time. Option Set: COHYES (Graduated with a regular high school diploma within the allowable time; COHALTDPL (Graduated with a state-defined alternate high school diploma within the allowable time); COHNO (Did not graduate with a regular or state-defined alternate high school diploma within the allowable time); and COHREM (Has not graduated with a state-defined alternate high school diploma and removed from the cohort as allowed).

Use Case Background These values are required by EDFacts File Specification 151.

Location of Element in the Domain Entity Schema K12 > K12 Student > Academic Record
