Retopoflow UI too slow #1001

[BUG] Retopoflow UI too slow

Retopoflow Version: {3.1.0}

Blender Version/Hash: {2.92/02948a2cab44}

Platform Version/Distribution: {Windows 10 Pro}

Issue:

Once I start a Retopoflow session the whole UI starts to get slower and laggier. In some occasions (is a random thing) Blender freezes when I try to change any value or move a slider in the options panel on the right. So I'm forced to either close the file and reopen it again, or force quit Blender. Overall I can't spend more than 15min using the addon because by then everything is so slow is not possible to do anything on it.

One thing to note is that the tools of the addon work great, there's no lag when I'm actually using any of the tools, the lag and random crashes of Blender happens only when I'm interacting with the UI of the addon in any way, sometimes even hovering the mouse over a button is enough to feel it starting to get slower until I just have to close and reopen the file.

I tried it with several different files and it happens in all of them, even with the default cube.

How to Reproduce:

thanks for the report!

have you tried other versions of blender? also, what other add-ons do you have installed and enabled?

what are your poly counts for source (high res) and target (low res) meshes?

Was about to edit the original post lol, I just tried with 2.93 Hash:ba4228bcf77e from May 27 and it's the same. I just added a Suzzane with 1 subdivision as the source, and as soon as I open Retopoflow the UI starts to get slow and laggy. The additional addons I have installed are Photographer, AutoRig Pro and QuadRemesh.

what are your poly counts for source (high res) and target (low res) meshes?

In the original file where I noticed this the source are a couple of objects with around 1million polys overall. The target mesh was only around 1000 polygons. But the polycount doesn't make much of a difference because even with the default cube I experience this UI lag/crashes.

Thank you!

I'm sorry for your experience with RetopoFlow, @Julperado.

RetopoFlow does have performance issues with meshes that have high poly counts (something that we're working on now), but it shouldn't crash. Can you give me any more details on this crash? are you able to post a video of it running then crashing? Can you start Blender from the command terminal, and then paste in everything that is written to the terminal after it crashes?

Closing for lack of response - if this continues to be an issue in current versions of RetopoFlow please let us know!
