Tool responsiveness slows over time #842

Retopoflow Version: 3.0 beta 2

Blender Version/Hash: 2.83 official

Platform Version/Distribution: Windows 10 Pro

After working on a project a while tools become slow to respond bog down the retopology process. I recorded these gifs at 60 fps to better show the response time.

Loops tool: loops Tweak tool: tweak2

When beginning a project or working on something simple like the default cube the performance is much better, but this sort of slowness seems to build over time.

I noticed that as well using previous versions of this plugin. You can get the plugin installed correctly at least.

We'll be investigating performance more in the future now that 3.0 is out, but my first guess is that this is related to extreme polycounts as pointed out in other issues. If you're still experiencing this issue, how many polygons are in the target mesh and how many are in the sources meshes?

Saseska commented 2 years ago

Have the same trouble, the addon is really nice working only while retopologized mesh is "lowpoly". For example, if I use default cube as target, and the same mesh as retopology - the tools works well, but if I subdivide cube 5th times to get about 6k polys and then run RF - tools become unusable with average 6 fps. It heavily depends on how many polys in your retopologized mesh. The only workaround I've found here is to simply split my retopology into smaller pieces and merge them into one piece after everything is complete.

My config: Ryzen 3900X, 32Gb RAM, Blender 3.X, Retopoflow 3.2.8

@Saseska, would you be willing to share your .blend file with us? You can send it to retopoflow@cgcookie.com to keep it private.

Also, would you mind trying something? Try resetting Blender to factory defaults (File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings), then re-enable and run RetopoFlow without having any other nonstandard add-on enabled.

We have had no problems with working on 6k faces, so I'm wondering if it could be a particular configuration.

@vxlcoder Just tried, it still works the same way. I have sent a sample scene and screen record to your email.
