Attachements and Thunderbird - sometimes crash Pop2Owa #30

When I try to send a message with multiple attachements or large attachements after around 30 seconds thunderbird the progress bar quickly goes to 100%, then stops there while I can see that Pop2Owa is still uploading and then after around 30 seconds it closes with the message "Sending of message failed, The message could not be sent because connection to SMTP server 127.0.0.1 failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verifiy that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator." The really annoying thing is that sometimes the messages arrive nevertheless, and sometimes they don't!

Now trying to receive or send further messages via Pop2Owa fails on the first connection attempt but then continues to work (for sending small messages). If instead of trying to download I instantly Click on Pop2Owa in the tray and then clicking again on "Apply" in the Pop2Owa window then Pop2Owa crashes with the message in german (as I have a german windows intallation) "Laufzeitfehler '5': Ungültiger Prozeduraufruf oder ungültiges Argument" in English "Runtime Error '5', invalid procedure call or invalid argument"

After restart of Pop2Owa sending (small) or receiving messages works as supposed.

I can send the same message over the webinterface so the attachement size is supported in principle, it happens sending messages via Pop2Owa from approximately 1.5MB upwards.

o.k. ---> I found out how to solve it after reading the thunderbird mozilla zine entry "Can not send large attachements". http://kb.mozillazine.org/Can\_not\_send\_large\_attachments The server timeout is set too short. I don't know why this only affects pop2owa but with direct pop3 access the progress bar works accordingly and uploading messages that takes longer than the default 60seconds does work.

Here's how to solve it (maybe include this into documentation?) In thunderbird click on TOOLS-->OPTIONS-->ADVANCED-->Config Editor According to Mozilla documentation under ADVANCED-->General there should be a possibility to enter the timeout though in my version it isn't (might be one of my several plugins hiding this). Then enter timeout in the filter line and increase the MAILNEWS.TCPTIMEOUT to an appropriate length. I chose 500seconds. Set this really long, if just increasing to 120seconds the problem might still occur.

Ypops suffers from the same problem --> here is their forum entry: http://ypopsemail.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=11167
