John, I will get back with you on this one. I will speak with Savannah and place our notes here.

I spoke with Savannah and I think I have this clarified a bit. So in the previous portal, the default behavior would include 'child taxa' when you searched on anything at the Genus or above. For example, if you searched for 'Bebryce', the filter would be set to ScientificName == "Bebryce", but would also include Bebryce asteria, Bebryce brunnea, etc. This is slightly different than the functionality in the 'Taxon' filter because the user does not need to know (and wade through) the entire hierarchy, they can just go right to it by typing "Brebryce". I think this could be implemented by having a "include child taxa" toggle button above the ScientificName search. Don't know if that is feasible, but I think that gives a little bit more about the need/want from the user.

Another way to implement would be to allow the selection of multiple scientific names from the dropdown list using ctrl click. I think this might allow more granular control, but might be harder to implement.

You can actually achieve multiple species selection with the ''Set filter" functionality within the 'Actions' button in the details pane, but unfortunately this does not actually apply the filter for your download. It is not honored. See related issue: https://github.com/CI-CMG/deep-sea-corals-exb/issues/44 image

Leave this alone for now. Will not fix.
