At present, in addition to manually typing in IGSNs, you have to manually type a local name for every aliquot that you download to CHRONI. This presents another opportunity for introducing an error -- for instance, I might transpose two digits in an IGSN but give the aliquot the local name for the sample I intended to download. I could use CHRONI with that wrong sample name and never realize my mistake.
What if, after entering in the IGSN (either typing it at present or selecting it from a list per my previous suggestion), the local name is pre-populated with the 'Sample ID' field but remains editable. So when I download the aliquot with IGSN NMM000013, the name pre-populates with the text 'NC-95'. That way the local name is tied to the actual record, but the user can modify it -- perhaps adding some more info to distinguish multiple aliquots from the same sample. This would also save keystrokes and cross-referencing if you're choosing the aliquot from a search result or list of 'my samples'.
