Since installing new MARS - Reconstruction errors with VE11C #277

Due to a bad optical fiber coupler Siemens swapped our MARS. Since it was installed we encounter now and the problem with running a CMRR seq. It stops the multiband acquisition after acquire SBref. Our imager is a MaRS 2D.2 128RX system I already re-installed VE11C-R016a...is there any else I should do?

Help is appreciated!

It took a few days to find out that also the new MARS had an issue. It did not reconstruct image acquired with MB. After installing a new MARS the issue was solved!

Hi Paul,

Can you provide more details on the solution? I may be having the same issue on another 128RX system with MaRS D.2. The C2P is also not reconstructing images when MB is turned on.

Three weeks ago our PrismaFit did not start up due to a hardware failure (one of the optical couplers on the Tx PCie board of the MARS had a too low light output) For this reason the MARS was replaced. After replacing it we got some issues with running the CMRR seq (working horse in our institute). The first day after swapping the MARS, a few times, only the first volume was reconstructed (epi with MB 4). The MARS crashed when starting to reconstruct the raw data of the other already acquired (6) volumes. All Siemens sequences ran without a problem.

After a reboot of the MARS, we could continue scanning. At day two/three the frequency of MARS crashing increased. Rebooting was the a workaround. At day four, after the first crash scanning with EPI-MB was NOT possible anymore. I tried it after rebooting, switching system OFF/ON, re-installing MARS firmware, re-installing CMRR seq. (Yes I was desperate). Only without MB the sequence worked.

We tried to run MB with original Siemens seq. It also crashed the MARS after pushing the MB settings. After exporting this sequence to our Prisma it ran without problems.! This was for me the evidence the recently installed MARS was causing the problem!

Siemens swapped the MARS again by another (new) one ! We now running already more than a week without any crashes. Unfortunately I still have no clue what caused the problem. I can only guess.

I must say since years on all of our 3 scanners (Prima,PrismaFit, Skyra) very occasionally (one very month) we have to reboot the MARS when trying to start the CMRR seq. It mostly happens then after running the AA-scout. But again the frequency is that low and rebooting of the MARS always did the job. Hence I did not invest time to get to the bottom of it beside the fact I am not an expert!

I will ask Siemens to consider replacing our MARS as well. Right now the product MB recon still works but not the CMRR C2P MB.

Just to let you know last week we encounter again the same problem with the CMRR. Three weeks long it worked without any problem. Siemens Erlangen checked the savelog and advice to swap the RFcellCom board. Before the swap I did a test and the CMRR ran without any problem. Obviously the error not reproducibly and hence very hard to solve. I keep you informed if the swapping the RFcellCom board eliminate the issue or not.
