Recommended Fleet parameters for MEBE XA30 #374

Hello,

We have just installed the XA30 version R017pre9. After converting from VE11E, we have noticed that the GRE option for the reference scan is not available for selection in the Dot Cockpit. Consequently, and unfortunately, the conversion of the protocol have changed the reference scan from GRE to single-shot and the number of reference lines., which has resulted in longer TEs.

As a workaround, we want to use Fleet instead. However, I am not familar with fleet. Any advice about the recommended parameters for Fleet? or should we use the default ones?

Thank you, Cesar

I can't speak authoritatively, but I have used FLEET with default settings with success (around 40 ref lines). I think it works quite well, and seems to support data having higher TSNR and less motion sensitivity.

For typical data and sequences the defaults will likely work well.

I also like fleet because it sounds like the sequence to be used instead of the buzz followed by surprising sound change associated with GRE ref.

I unfortunately don't know of any exhaustive comparisons between GRE and FLEET but in testing I find very very minimal differences in images.

What is special about your protocol where the GRE reference scan is not selectable? In principle it should always be selectable, so I'd like to have a look at that.

Every comparison I am aware of regarding GRE vs. FLEET matches Logan's impression that typically there should be minimal difference in image quality. I personally prefer GRE because theoretically it should be more resistant to artifacts, but if the change in sound startles the subject and causes them to move then that would override any other considerations.

Thank you very much for your feedback @dowdlelt @eauerbach We are using the version R017pre9 for XA30, and the only options for the reference scan are single-shot, segmented and fleet.

Is this true when you create a new protocol starting from the default protocol, or only from a converted old protocol? It is certainly plausible something strange happened when converting an old protocol that could block GRE reference from being selectable, as the way the protocols are converted from VE11E is out of my control and anything could happen. But I can't see any issue when starting from a new default protocol. Is this a Prisma system?

hi @eauerbach, we have tried with a new protocol starting from the default protocol, and the GRE option appears now. However, the protocol gets blocked when we try to activate it. There is an error in the log viewer. Do you want me to send you the log file? And do you want to open another issue with this potential bug?

Same problem as @CesarCaballeroGaudes for me: when I try to activate GRE the protocol gets blocked
