decide on initialization schema for each day #3

this will affect the way that people use patches.

the options are:

  1. user chooses port each morning for the course, then saves it into their patch
  2. user includes an argument of the port name

i think the most intuitive is to have user open up a patch, select the port, save the patch, then close it and resume using the materials. the alternatives are to have user edit the object argument, which to be honest seems less intuitive. this will require the least information and troubleshooting on the part of the TAs.
