Hi Kendal,

I've added two maps to your rs-synthesis.Rmd script. They each have a slightly different purpose, and if you want other combinations I'm happy to tweak the code.

First Map Option:

Shows terrain and vegetation and points are colored by ecosystem type pros: good for QA/QC, shows whether ecosystem type matches with location/vegetation info cons: stamen maps are better for finer resolution (more zoomed in). World view gets a bit blurry

Second Map Option:

Outline map with points in red pros: simple, good for showing spatial distribution of points; shows we have good coverage cons: no extra information

Hi Steph - these look great, thank you!

I wonder if it's possible to have option 1, but without the country names? That would visually simplify it some without loosing any of the important land cover information.

@stephpenn1 will try to download the OpenStreetMaps R package and pull the nps map. If not, I will take option 2 and add Ecosystem Type with the viridis palette
