In Latest Publications on Publisher pages, forthcoming titles still showing #102

This still seems to be happening, unfortunately.. with forthcoming titles showing at the top, rather than being hidden at the bottom (e.g. mediastudies.press -- Judith noticed her own book there, even though it is still far from publication)

Are you talking about this book?

https://openbookcollective.org/books/book/45592/

Thanks Andy. We had reported this issue, which I assume affects the other publishers too. All of our Thoth-designated forthcoming books show up, and at the top. We would greatly prefer that they not appear.

Hey Jeff - thanks. Can you tell me which of the books are forthcoming? I can see 45592 for example has a date published set (15/10/2023) so that may explain why its showing but we need to check the others.

@ajrbyers yes, that's the book I was referring to (but I think there are others)

Hi @ajrbyers and @joedeville,

You’re right to flag the Oct 15 pub date—that does account for the Killer Fandom book’s appearing in Latest Titles:

https://openbookcollective.org/books/?initiative=10

I changed the pub date to correct, Nov 1, so that should issue resolve in a few minutes.

The actual problem is with “Latest Publications” list on each initiatives own page. Here’s mediastudies.press

https://openbookcollective.org/view/package/11/summary/

Under “Latest Publications,” all the forthcoming books—even those with pub dates well into 2024, are listed. I’m also attaching a screenshot.

Thanks!

Jeff

Thanks @jeffpooley we'll get on this.

Hi @ajrbyers just writing to check in about this issue, with the forthcoming books appearing on Latest Publications on Publisher pages. This is still the case, but there also appears to have been a regression on the Collective Catalog—where a forthcoming book is now appearing as well.

We’ve been holding off on approaching potential libraries because we’re worried that the forthcoming books appear unprofessional.

Thanks! Jeff

Hi Jeff,

We're working on a fix for this and it should be in this week.

Best,

Martin

Hi Jeff,

So this should now be fixed.

There is still a title displaying that doesn't have a cover, but this is past its publication date and it looks to be live.

Best,

Martin

Thanks so much, @MartinPaulEve — really appreciate!

That one title—it’s “forthcoming” on Thoth and it’s pub date was 15 December (not 1 December, as listed), so not sure why it’s appearing, but I’ll report back if it remains. So grateful for this update!

jeffpooley commented 10 months ago

Just a quick note to say that this issue isn’t quite resolved—two forthcoming books remain in the catalog.

msp-obc-1

They may be some kind of left-over artifact? Or the catalog itself isn’t updating? The reason is that the publication date and (in one case) the title have been changed quite some time ago. See Thoth screenshots:

msp-obc-2

msp-obc-3

Note, too, that these two forthcoming titles do not appear in the ScolarLed catalogue on the ScholarLed site, also drawing from Thoth (courtesy of @SimonXIX). So it seems to be something specific with the OBC site.

Thanks, and happy new year!

I think this is now fixed; Thoth should be back on a daily update schedule now, too

jeffpooley commented 9 months ago

Thanks so much! It’s all fixed!
