I showed Dan too. His thought is that the hamburger takes you back to a main page, not necessarily to change views on current map. He suggests something like this where the view options are shown on the left http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/#plus

Just some thoughts. It's a great resource!

Ok - I made some changes, for users who have never visited before. When the modal is closed, the sidebar automatically pops up. Please check out when you can :)
