Should find out more about the updates to mixing parameters since GFDL-OM4, particularly bottom mixing and tropical upper ocean mixing https://github.com/COSIMA/access-om3/issues/96#issuecomment-1939804701
For reference, the rightmost column of the slide below from Gustavo's CESM workshop talk and slides shows the parameterisations chosen or being considered for CESM3 (excluding the green one - note the colour coding).
The CESM3 configuration for CMIP7 will have a science freeze in a month or so, but they will continue to tune parameters and topography until the CESM3 release, which seem to be planned for late 2024 / early 2025.
They have adopted HYCOM1 hybrid coordinates with a depth-dependent maximum layer thickness constraint.
They are using MEKE and considering Bodner et al. 2023 submesoscale mixed layer lengthscale parameterisation and Ohlmann 2003 shortwave penetration.
They are investigating wave mixing in MOM6 and C-grid and wave coupling in CICE6 but it's unclear whether any of that will be ready in time for the science freeze.
See other relevant talks here.

MOM_input
needs to be updated in all configs.I'll start with the
1deg_jra55do_ryf
branch of MOM6-CICE6 and then migrate changes to other branches and repos. The
1deg_jra55do_ryf
branch of MOM6-CICE6 is currently closely based on thegmom_jra
CESM branch; there have been several changes leading to the differences tabulated here. This table compares the MOM6-CICE6
1deg_jra55do_ryf
MOM_input
to various other configurations (bold variables differ between the configs; this table shows only the differences).
