Just to note -- the 0.1° is only 91 cores and runs fast ... do we really need a lower res version?
I'd like a low res version to develop an understanding of what a coarse climate model (ie. 1 degree) misses in the boundary current region. If the boundary current is important (and we think it is) what's lost by losing it?
So, you just want to see how bad it is? I think I can tell you it will be bad ...
My Masters student Fan Zhang has just finished a comparison of the 3 resolutions for the EAC region. It's really bad at 1 deg, especially for the EAC extension (unsurprising, since it's eddy-dominated), and much better at 0.25deg, presumably due to at least partial representation of EAC eddies.
