Why the bandwidth is very low in OpenSSD mode? #2

I try to test the bandwidth of Daisy Plus by command: fio -filename=/dev/nvme0n1 -direct=1 -iodepth 256 -thread -rw=read -ioengine=psync -bs=32k -size=10G -numjobs=8 -runtime=20 -group_reporting -name=sqe_read_32k

However, the bandwidth is very low, varying between hundreds of KB and thousands of KB. Here is one test result:

I tried three types of NAND modules, including two same Toshiba modules and a Hynix module(bought with Cosmos Plus in 2020). Unfortunately, all of them perform badly.

I want to know how to increase its bandwidth, Thanks.

Here is my configuration: Board: Daisy Plus (LPDDR4_B) NAND Modules: Toshiba 256GB or Hynix 512GB Firmware: OpenSSD-OpenChannelSSD\DaisyPlus\OpenSSD\Toshiba_NAND\daisyplus_openssd_toshiba_4c8w_lpddr4 or OpenSSD-OpenChannelSSD\DaisyPlus\OpenSSD\Hynix_NAND\daisyplus_openssd_hynix_4c8w_lpddr4 CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1230 V2 @ 3.30GHz Main board: ASRock Z77 Extreme 6 Memory: DDR3 1600M 12GB OS: Ubuntu16.04 with Kernel 4.4.4

By the way, Cosmos plus is able to reach a normal bandwidth (about 1.4GB/s) in this configuration.

Try with NVMe driver of linux kernel 4.17.0 or above. It is found that NVMe driver of linux kernel 4.16.0 or below is not compatible with Xilinx UltraScale+ PCIe.

If not working, please upload the output of 'dmesg'.

From the log, NVMe IRQ was not properly processed. Instead 30s timeout happened.

Windows is not easy to install on this host because I have no extra disk, if the result of start-up in Windows is very helpful I could try my best to test it. By the way, I noticed some issues may be related to the issue.

  1. Cosmos+ could work fine in all kernels I have tested on this host.
  2. When I start up the host with Daisy+, the host startup time will become much longer than normal. And the test result of fio is very low(about thousands of Byte).
  3. However, if I start up the host in Kernel 4.4.4 with Daisy+, the startup time of the host is normal. And the test result of fio will be much higher than other kernels and could reach about hundreds of KB.

Besides, I see the bug is fixed by updating nvme controller. I'm not familiar with Vivado and RTL design(I tried to synthesis and implementation the vivado project "DaisyPlus\OpenSSD\Toshiba_NAND\daisyplus_openssd_toshiba_4c8w_lpddr4\cosm-plus-sys" but failed). So could you update the hdf file of each OpenSSD firmware of Daisy+?
