Work with older versions of git #18

Legacy versions of git don't support -C, so use a rune that works with both old and new git.

Thanks for the contribution. I noticed that I had Notifications turned of for the repo, therefore the slow response time.

I did a small edit as we have some systems where the software is stripped of the git repo -> errors are printed, probably should fixe a more proper version information upon installation, but I'll leave it as it is for now.
