Feature request : show number of deaths over time #200

DISCLAIMER : I'm not sure that this request needs to be put in this repo. Sorry in advance if it's not the case

The time chart show the amount of recoveries over time, but not the deaths.

I think it would be interesting to have this as well.

dawenx commented 4 years ago

can you provide a link to the time chart you refer to?

see the latest graph for today here: https://github.com/CSSEGISandData/COVID-19/issues/178#issuecomment-594011704

a fresh graph is created automatically every day at 6 in the repo that is linked in the post (see "actions")

i have updated the plot now to be published in the wiki. you can check it directly now https://github.com/SeidChr/COVID-19-Report-Data-Pipeline/wiki/The-Plot

I would like to see a line for deaths in the interactive chart, as well.

SeidChr commented 4 years ago

after creating this number-of-deaths graph on my own, i can say, that - on a global perspective - it's basically a slightly rising straight line, and does not deliver much information. image I can be wrong, but i assume this is one of the reasons its not in the already quite cluttered dashboard / graph window. A couple of graphs, including a comparison on the dead-counts of other countries, have been added to the graph collection linked above.

While the death line may not seem to add much information now; not including it leaves it up to the imagination of the viewer, which doesn't seem ideal. Plus, the line may become more-interesting over time, as more of the world becomes infected. Not having a death line sweeps a really important statistic under the rug.

There's plenty of room for a fourth line in the [admittedly cluttered] GUI, both in the chart and in the answer key. At 1080p, there's enough room to fit a fourth key horizontally; as you shrink the screen, the three keys arrange in a 2x2 grid, with a missing slot for a fourth key; and as you shrink the screen yet more, the three keys arrange vertically, with a bunch of unused white space above them that could easily be repurposed for a fourth key. As well, the death line is so low compared to the other lines, that it wouldn't really obscure the graph.

Well, i just made an assumption there. You can be totally right. On the other hand, a statistic over the existing cases has also not been added, which would be even more interesting at the moment, where it seperates the rest of the world from China. Just brought this 'cluttered' thing up, because in the overview seen on my fullhd tv, the graph window appears to be very tiny and overwhelmed by just the 3 lines that are already on it

Any updates on this?
