Thanks for posting this. Unfortunately, the additional deaths were dumped into a single day (July 27) for the JHU data, similar to the June 25 NJ spike. Do the JHU trackers plan to smooth out this spike? FWIW, I do my own smoothing by taking the estimated 1-day excess and assigning it to previous days in proportion to their deaths, but the period of time has to be guesstimated.
@paulavery1951 Unfortunately data has not yet been released that would allow us to appropriately assign these deaths to prior dates. We will revisit if and when this data becomes available.
Note: The state of Texas' Department of State Health Services changed their reporting methodology for COVID-19 deaths, resulting in a roughly 13% increase in reported fatalities from the 26th to the 27th. Details can be found in the press release from the state here.
