This project uses only data that is available from reputable or official sources, and most such sources do not currently report at that level of granularity.
coviddatascraper does as well, the data in that project is only sourced from county and state departments of health websites.
So people think the states are not providing that data to the federal government already? If so why is it not available quickly from them? It should at least have what is publicly available. And it should be available via Open Data portal somewhere like the EPA does for environmental data like air quality indexes.
I mean, none of this should be necessary frankly. The CDC should be providing a state/county level summary via an open API. But it's not as far as anyone can tell. So here we are.
Has anyone at JHU asked? The link on the map should point to an Open Data portal or straight to maybe CDC Wonder page about restful services. If the states realize there is a scraping going on they will start to block them for fear of DOS then go after the project supplying the software.
First I would like to thank the people on the effort 558. But it is a site providing software to gather via screen scraping county and other level software and some viewers. Is there a plan for JHU to integrate it with the daily reports and if so when? I was able to parse and display with an app whose output I put below and provide freely a slightly earlier version. Please let me know what the plans are so I can help you and others. Many thanks!
