/CC @stubbornella @nschonni: would be nice if you added me to that GA account so that I can check things.

nschonni commented 8 years ago

I don't have access to the GA stuff, but can you point to what this improves? I know GA was changing stuff, but I don't really see much difference besides the site name in the tracking and the obfuscation.

In theory nothing should change. I just wanted to make sure it works before merging it.

Alternatively, if @stubbornella has access to that GA account, she can paste the tracking code from the property.

But if we don't have access to this account, we should make a new one.

The old ga.js is the legacy version and is no longer supported/updated.

Universal Analytics is the new version of web analytics from Google. It introduces a new tracking code, the ability to track a user's behaviour among different devices and a new measurement protocol that is able to import data from online and offline devices.

Some more info here: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/upgrade/reference/gajs-analyticsjs#overview

You can (and should) update to the new version as @XhmikosR suggested with no problems.
