Customer would like to be able to raise the ducting and fan on the top of the FPA instrument by 800mm

Initial idea is to use C13832-510 (these are currently 750mm) and create some brackets that will mount to the subframe and rack. The rods will need to be kept vertical and rigid whilst the ducting is being moved.

The customer will use a crane to raise and lower the ducting - these rods will act as the alignment rails.

An alternative to C13832-510 would be to use 1600mm of SS rod at 20mm diameter - would ideally like to have 800mm above and below for rigidity

Questions

what if the crane cannot lift straight up - the rods will need to resist this motion, so the brackets should be designed with this in mind
how will the bearing mechanism work within the subframe
if a SS rod is used, can we tap the ends
Would like dissimilar metals for bearing and rod - phosphor bronze?
How stiff is the square frame if there is a 20mm hole for a bearing?
what level of misalignment in the bearing stack will cause the rod system to bind?
How straight is the rod, and will this affect the binding qualities?

Design split into two sections:

Sub-frame Bearing System

Rack Mounting System for Rails

Idea is to use these shaft supports to fasten the 1600mm rails to the rack.
Rails should be mounted on a secure frame and not on the 1.2mm wall of the instrument rack
- Could weld additional channels behind the wall and use these to mount the shaft supports
- Could add racking side pieces to the wall and design secure frame pieces that would fasten using the square M6 holes
Rails must be kept aligned
