Food services Layer #178

Open jailby opened 8 years ago

This issue propose multiple new layer under the category of food services. The parent issue can be found here. I believe that food service should be its own category (e.g.: USF Bus Routes).

Under this category we could have the following items:

For the marker a bubble like the one for Share-A-Bull with the logo/name of the service seems good.

Restaurants could also include the dinning hall instead of making a separate category for the dinning hall but I would not consider them as restaurants personally.

Here is a map with most (all?) food service available on campus: image

Note: This issue need to be improved. This is not the final state of the issue please feel free to comment with changes that you would like to make (e.g.: combine dinning hall and restaurant or the name for the fourth category).

If we pull this info automatically directly from OpenStreetMap, we'll be somewhat at the mercy of the categorizations there. IIRC I saw two categories in OSM - "restaurant" and "fast food". Do you think we could categorize all locations under these two categories? Or are some of the locations used differently by students? For example, do the meal plans only cover some locations?

Meal plan are only for dinning halls.

Every meal plans come with a certain amount of dinning dollar that can be used at most USF fast food location as well at the dinning hall themselves. I know that these dinning dollars can be use at Beef 'O' Brady's but I don't know about the restaurant.

All these layer could be categorized "food services" that could be our single layer.

My thought process behind these categories: Since we are already going to exceed the size of the layer able to fit in a screen I was thinking that fine-grain layers for the food services may be a good idea.

For example, a freshman has to take a meal plan and therefore will care to see only the dinning hall sometimes.

Ok, so we should definitely split out the dining halls separately. We'll need to come up with some way to tag them in OSM, then.
