Here's my understanding of our needs - please correct me:

Okay only had a few minutes but my first sweep wants to look into something like this further: https://simple-membership-plugin.com/

It's a plugin that protects areas within our existing WP site. It would accomplish all of the above except for OAuth, but now that I think about OAuth more I'm not sure how feasible it is (I can explain more on our call). But we could use this plugin's API to automatically create user accounts with their email addresses, and then the member would just have to reset their password to get in.

Anyway, to discuss...

I like the concept of the Simple membership plugin from what I saw. I didn’t get to the API part.
