Non-English Language Issues/Translation Help

Part of #22 involves making the labels of the various boxes text rather than baked into the image, which gives us the opportunity to allow for some translated sections.

Here I've begun compiling the localized strings for English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, French, Italian, and Korean. Of these, I speak... just English, so this is a combination of official translations and some time on google translate, and so has several holes and almost certainly some issues in translation.

So while I set up the code side of this, I'll be looking for improvements and hole fills in the actual translations from people who know better in this thread.

To do this, check the file for your language of choice. It will have a list of lines formatted as "English sentence": "Translated sentence" or "English sentence": "" if it's missing the translation. Submit these as either a Pull Request, or they can be posted in this thread in that same "English sentence": "Translated sentence" format.

What Google Translate couldn't not translate well:

Eeveelution : ブイズ ブイズ means Eevees. Eevees for short "vees"

PseudoLegend : 600族 They are called because the total base status is 600 or more :) 族 means team, club, group

Box Legendary : パケ伝 パケ means パッケージ package, 伝 means 伝説 legend

Mythical : 幻のポケモン

giganta max : キョダイマックス

pokeball : モンスターボール sorry but no problem in japanese, lol

in order to change the categories of the bottom section, they need to be changed from being part of the template image to being text we write on top of it. Once we have that, it's easy to add a system that can change the default values to update to different languages; the hard part of that is getting all the translations

If you still need the Spanish ones, I took the French txt above and translated that to Spanish.

I used neutral Spanish, since there are differences between Latin American Spanish and Spain Spanish, but I made two txt files, the only difference is the name for the mythical Pokémon, since Spanish speakers can get very picky about it.

For favorite eeveelution, regional bird, Poké Ball and regional form "favorito" needs to be changed to "favorita" since words are gendered in spanish.

You could do "Español" and "Español Latino". That or just "Español" and "Latino" if you wanna make it shorter. Many media and streaming sites just use "Latino" and people understand that it means Spanish from Latin America.

little update cause running later than i'd hoped, the system is up and working, i'm working on the fine tuning for really long strings, and remaking the type squares so they can get translated.

Now that I see it, it would be more natural for the French version to have the "Préféré" (favorite) at the end (like "Oiseau Régional Préféré" for "Favorite Regional Bird") And since nouns are gendered in french, "Préféré" should be replaced by "Préférée" for the Poke Ball, Ultra Beast and Regional Form. And I guess for consistency, there should be capital letters for Fabuleux (in the Mythical Pokemon entry) and Regionale (in the Regional Form entry)

Hello, for French I think it should be "Légendaire" and not "Légend", even if Mythicals are also in this category. I also think it should not be "Forme Gadget" but more "Forme à Gimmick", because we also use this world in French. Excuse my English, I may sound a little rude but I just don't speak really well...

Légendaire is a tougher one because it's so long, it would either need to be shrunk down really really small to fit, or split into something like

Legend- aire

Both of those strike me as worse than shortening it, but maybe it's not the case for other languages?

I understand. The problem with "Gadget", it's, that in French, it meens something useless and cheap, kind of like a kitchen toy or a little mechanism to do something really precise. For "Légendaire" we unfortunatly don't have any other world, so "Légend" is fine, but, in French it's feminine so it would be more correct written "Légende" or "Légendes" because there are more than one.

Hello. Great to see the update is available! For Portuguese the word Favorito would come before the item. So Lendário Favorito, Mítico Favorito and so on. If not possible, you could add : after the word Favorito: Lendário, Favorito: Mítico, that would solve the problem as well.

Yep, we could use those. I think our current German translations are half Bulbapedia, half Google Translate, so a native speaker would be great.

Alright then. I hope I could help you. I really like the way the picked works. It lets you see all available options in one spot and is really intuitive to use. Something you could add is the option to choose your favorite minor form or rotom form.

Hey! I've gone ahead and re-translated basically all the MT text in the Japanese translation, as well as brushing up some of the existing translations and adding translations for everything in the code box. There should be a pull request for Japanese!

Hello, this is just a suggestion for the design of the site, there are some shyne pokemons that have almost no differences, such as Gengar, Garchomp, Ceruledge and Armarouge, the suggestion itself would be to put the Shiny Charm button in the upper right corner to identify if the pokemon is in shyne appearance or not, however I recommend all pokemons of all boxes to have.
