I had the same issues. It threw up some console errors, 404s to js files. Messed about with the layouts of the forms etc.
It's as if the plugin update wasn't tested first?
@hahntech Thanks for using Caldera Forms. I'm sorry you had this issue. In order to help, I would need to know if this is a bug related to Caldera Forms alone or if it is a conflict with another plugin. That is the reason why our template asking these questions:
Here is information about how to find PHP and JavaScript errors: https://calderaforms.com/2016/05/wordpress-debug-logging/ https://webmasters.stackexchange.com/a/77337
I would recommend running the update on your staging site with error logging enabled, with and without your other plugins enabled.
@ste6412 Yes we do test both manually and with automated testing. I'd like to know more about these console errors, 404s to js files. Messed about with the layouts of the forms etc.
Can you share the specific errors? Have you compared the files that are missing to what should be in the package (https://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/caldera-forms/tags/1.7.4/) to make sure you did not get a bad update? WordPress does not check that it downloaded the right or complete plugin/ theme update before it applies the update.
Thanks @Shelob9 for the details. I don't have a staging site. In order to run these diagnostics I will need to clone my site to local hardware and that means I have to loose an entire day of productivity. I will reply back if I manage to find time to get this completed.
@hahntech Ok. Let us know if you find anything that would explain the problem. I'd strongly recommend moving to a host with one click staging -- SiteGround, WPEngine, Pagely, Pantheon, Kinsta all have it and really solid hosting. We use Pantheon for CalderaForms.com not just because of the quality of hosting, but because I can pull the site to my local machine with database, assets and files with one command.
@Shelob9 I will test this again on a staging site and see what actual errors there were.
I know you do test the plugin I was merely stating that it was as if you hadn't, but yea maybe its an issue with WordPress.
@hahntech ...I'd strongly recommend moving to a host with one click staging...
Thanks, my hosting company does provide this service. For an extra fee. Since I've only actually needed it one time in 5 years it is deemed an unnecessary expense.
Update. Today I decided to try the update again. Instead of giving up after a few minutes and calling GoDaddy to disable the plugin I decided to give more time. After 10 minutes the site finally came back to life. However the Caldera Forms plugin had been removed from my site entirely. When I attempted to install version 1.7.4 it failed to install. So then I downloaded version 1.7.3 and attempted to manually upload and install. This also failed. Not sure it helps you track down the issue. On the phone now with GoDaddy support. I'll see if they can get me any diagnostic info to help understand what is going on.
Ok, last update because I get to close this now. The GoDaddy support rep was able to "poke and prod" the update to version 1.7.4 and get it to take. He didn't give my any details beyond that. Finally got this thing updated!
Latest version of Calder Forms (1.7.4) just took done my site during the update.
I rolled back to version 1.7.3 and the site works.
Please let me know when it is safe to try running the update again.
