I tried to address some of the points raised in issue #17 with the following:

User authentication can happen even if token already present (this resolves having to clear manually using the console)
Username (email address) is stored locally so that it can be showed in the popup (prevents retyping when token is expired)
Some basic warnings were added to prompt the user to login if not already done so/expired needs further work
