Open derekteay opened 4 years ago

Lets make a tutorial around standing up a Skills Network instance with documentation for creating content within that platform

derekteay commented 4 years ago

Raul Chong is provisioning an instance of the Skills Network to be used as an interactive demo.

Current blocker is waiting for a signup link from Leon so people can request an instance be created.

Removing need for architecture diagram for this tutorial, as it's not being targeted only for developers, therefore, it's not really needed.

New signup link hosted on IBM Developer, thanks to Manny - https://developer.ibm.com/call-for-code-request-for-on-line-learning-portal/

Documentation in progress, spoke more with Raul about documentation for the tutorial flow.

Documentation

In an effort to allow instructors to more easily connect with students for remote education, IBM is providing free access to your very own instance of our Skills Network portal until November of 2022. Check out the interactive demo with sample courses found here.

To get started with your own Skills Network portal, follow these steps:

  1. Fill out this form and request for an instance to be created. Please allow up to 72 hours for an email with next steps.

    • Note: The Subdomain field is the part of the URL that precedes skillsnetwork.site (eg. my-site.skillsnetwork.site), all Skills Network instances will follow the pattern your-site-here.skillsnetwork.site.
    • A default username, password, and Skills Network portal name will be created for you automatically. Your generated username will be a combination of your first name and last name and your portal name will be the same as what you pick for your subdomain.
    • Upon logging in for the first time, you will be prompted to change your password from the default one that was created for you. The portal name and username can also be changed from the admin panel of your Skills Network portal.
  2. Take a look through the administrative panel and configure your site to your liking (accessible via my-site.skillsnetwork.site/admin/settings/edit, just replace my-site with your chosen subdomain). Notable features include:

    • Virtual Assistant - Integrate IBM Watson Assistant into your portal to answer questions and provide help
      • accessible via my-site.skillsnetwork.site/admin/chatbot/edit (replace my-site with your chosen subdomain)
    • Course Catalog - Check out the vast amount of available courses and add them to your portal where students can get started.
      • accessible via my-site.skillsnetwork.site/admin/course_catalog (replace my-site with your chosen subdomain)
    • Blog Posts - Create blog posts visible to your audience where you can write about anything you want!
      • You can find additional documentation about blog posts here
      • accessible via my-site.skillsnetwork.site/admin/blog_posts (replace my-site with your chosen subdomain)
  3. If you want to create your own course, follow this guide.

  4. For additional resources, take a look at the provided docs here.
