Met with Christoffer and Roger. I will add these modes:
LOSS X: yields an X% slit loss of the PSF for the slicer (3x slit width). Example: LOSS 3
RES X: yields a minimum resolution R=l/dl=X. Example: “RES 2000” will obtain R>=2000, with R>2000 if the SNR can be improved by reducing the slit (depends on PSF and sky background).
SNR X: yields a signal-to-noise ratio that is X% of the maximum possible SNR. Sacrificing a small amount of SNR like “SNR 95” can significantly improve resolution.
AUTO: Equivalent to “SNR 95” which we find to be a useful rule of thumb for achieving a balance between SNR and R.
We never settled on what the slit width keywords should be for the ETC or what they do (“SNR” “RES” “PSF” … ?)
