I want to make some tweaks to parse_features() based on some comments from Yagnesh. This issue is more a note to self more than anything.

Add some checking of input types e.g. making sure crap_proteins is a character not a factor.
Add a verbose argument so you can silence the messages produced.

All good with me. For the first point, is there any reason why crap_proteins can not be forced into a character if it is a factor?
