Wind speed and direction are not displaying on Namadgi's instruments

@PSARN @mrmrmartin will be interested

The Garmin GND 10 unit is located behind the backrest cushion midway along the saloon seat, stb side. It provides the interface between the wind instrument on the mast and the boat's NMEA 2000 data backbone.

The wind instruments were found to be working when I attended Namadgi on 10/3/22 -- the problem seems to be intermittent possibly due to water ingress into the instrument at that top of the mast.

We will have to keep an eye on this.

Meanwhile, here is an excellent article describing how the wind instruments actually work

Closing this issue for now

Replacement available

smr547 commented 2 years ago

Has failed again during delivery from Batemans to Sydney. Paul Baston will send someone up the mast to check the unit next week. Meanwhile we may need to source a replacement.

smr547 commented 2 years ago

Paul reports that the problem is due to water ingress. Once the area at the top of the mast dries the unit works again.

The unit has been reliable for the past couple of months but we should have it checked by a Garmin specialist while we are at Boatworks
