Garmin chartplotters - upgrade software and update charts #543

Add charts for the South Pacific. Note current problems with card readers (built into the chart plotter and NMEA200 reader not working) Do at Boatworks

Last updated Aug 2021 -- no further updated possible until card reader fixed -- see #421

Software and charts should be upgraded during maintenance window in NZ -- or at least before the NZ->Fiji leg. Setting priority to 2 @peterottesen will be interested

Garth Brice arranged procurement and delivery of Pacific Islands Marine Charts for Fiji and New Caledonia to Opua Marina Office per email:

Accounts Manager The attached NAB Funds Transfer of $489.50 is forwarded for your records. As discussed with Dakota, would you please forward the Pacific Islands- Marine Charts Garmin Navionics NSPC014 microSD card by express airfreight to;

Marina Office Bay of Islands Marina-Opua Baffin Street Opua New Zealand. (Hold for Garth Brice On Yacht Namadgi)

Please track the the delivery of the card and let me know when it is delivered to the Marina office. Arrangements have been made for the the new electronic charts to be loaded into the chart plotters on 26 April. Thank you for your assistance. Kind Regards Garth

Garth emailed: "I have an electronics technician coming to Namadgi on 26 April to fix the card readers in both chart plotters. He will also update the software and download the electronic charts for Fiji and New Caledonia. Chris and I will ensure that we have full wireless connectivity between the chart plotters and the Iridium Go using Active Captain. I will also have Navionics charts on my iPad as a back up along with the paper charts that I have purchased for the club."

Awaiting incorporation in NZ to close out this issue.

Garth emailed: "Both chart plotters were picked up by Hans this morning. Hans will fit the new card readers provided by Steven, update the software and download the charts for Fiji and New Caledonia. Hopefully he will return them to the boat by Friday. There was no indication of cost at this stage."

I'll ask the team at Boatworks to give us a status update on the Garmin chartplotters and advise if more up-to-date charts are available
