The fire extinguisher mounting screws have pulled out of the fibreglass hatch due to weight and continual slamming/shutting of the door. Placement is not supported. Recommend relocation to under the cockpit console to alleviate ongoing issues. Also may address safety concern with access to lazzarette when jack stays installed.
Hi Paul B,
I agree, the extinguisher is way too heavy to be mounted under the lazarette locker cover. The mounting supports and structural strength of the lazarette cover are both grossly inadequate to withstand the impulsive forces generated by slamming of the lazarette cover.
I like the idea of mounting permanently under the cockpit console/table. It will be
Its exact location will need to be labelled and discussed in each crew safety briefing.

Thank you, Paul. Problem with access to lazarette will likely remain while flares and bolt cutters are stowed there.
Regards Paul
Certainly not a full solution to the lazarette access problem
Thank you, Steven.
Suggest fire extinguisher needs a sheltered location, protected from the elements. Inside a cockpit locker would seem ideal, except that real estate there is already at a premium - even before the new diesel bladder is installed. Could a wooden pad be installed under the lazarette hatch to give the screws something to bite into? I’m imagining pads like we installed on Namadgi II to mount saddles to secure the anchor.
Paul

This is the same as Issue #607. Recommend incorporation and closure of one.
Issue #607 has been CLOSED.
Revisiting this issue, I agree with Paul that best option will be to epoxy a wooden slab (or perhaps metal or fibreglass) onto the underside of the hatch with nuts embedded, so that bolts can be used to secure fire extinguisher clamps. Educate people NOT to allow hatch to slam shut! The person in Opua who repaired the pedestal may be interested!
