@peterottesen has been in contact with Gus the rigger and advised...
Hi Gus I am just following up our conversation of a few moments ago. Ben at Hood sails believes the problem is a pinch being formed in the sail when reefed, creating a hard point for chafing of the line’s polyester case. He has seen this before. He suggests a couple of metres or so of a dyneema/spectra chafe guard be ‘milked’ over the end of the reefing line and we might consider this as well for the 2nd reef. The core of the lines are in as-new condition so don’t need to be replaced. Of course you may have a different view once inspected.
The main halyard is also slipping and we have done work to the clutch, indicating the problem maybe the halyard. It has plenty of length to be shortened. Can you look at this please.
I will advise of the yacht’s ETA at the CYCA, when I know, given your advice that at this stage you will have time tomorrow, Friday. Otherwise you are available first thing Monday morning.
A sheath has been placed on the No 1 reefing line -- the line is good and the reef is working well. Closing this issue

Nick from Ruel Rigging has been consulted. Gus Clark from Pacific Rigging will attend on Monday to diagnose and fix the problem. See website for Gus's contact details. Apart from obvious remediation, also consider a chaff cover tip on aft end of reefing line.
@peterottesen will be the shore-based contact for this problem Skippers @mrmrmartin and @Christopher-w-green will be interested
