Swim Platform - Lower limit switch to motor is not operating #672

Closed smr547 closed 4 months ago

smr547 commented 1 year ago

The motor should stop automatically when the swim platform reaches it's lower limit.

A microswitch on the motor drive is mean to close when tension is removed from the lifting line -- this doesn't appear to be working.

more testing required. @smr547 had replaced the faulty microswitch and also has a spare.

@delcosta and @DimitD will be interested

Investigated this morning. Microswitch operates electrically (open circuit to closed circuit by multimeter). Connections to relay board removed and reattached (blue cables). Fuse checked OK. No fix. Possible connection point or relay board failure, or adjustment of 'slack line' arm to microswitch (most probable). IMG_20230218_104730216

Operation manual/ part number and wiring diagram would help!

While onboard, the Lower Limit switch was appearing to operate. Need confirmation. Also, the Phillips head bolt that retains the switch in the transom requires replacement with a stainless bolt to prevent rust stains.

All

The lower limit switch wasn't working when I found the boat in Noumea, and neither was the reset switch that hangs under the motor. The door platform was jammed tight against the closed limit switch on the transom and the motor wouldn't operate.

As discussed I tried disconnecting the upper limit switch from underneath but was still not successful in releasing the motor. When I inspected the lower limit switch, the contact spring had snapped and left a sharp metal edge.

That's when I proceeded to cut the ewinching rope so that it could be wound back onto the motor spool in the right direction.

I believe we need some sort of safeguard in place to prevent the overwinding that caused the problem in the first place. Maybe some sort of stopper on the winch rope?

Thanks

Lower limit switch not working... However, if reasonable care is used, it is a very minor issue. The main thing to ensure is that the motor is not wound in the incorrect direction. i.e. use the top switch position to wind the platform up. If the system is 'overlowered' the motor is working in the wrong direction and upper limit switch will be activated in with the swim platform locked in the up position. Use commonsense...
