Bimini is being damaged by the boom #689

The boom is rubbing on the the Bimini cover at the point where it is supported by the steel arch. This is causing significant damage to the Bimini canvas. Skippers are ask to

  1. Consider sailing with the Bimini cover retracted and stowed when the mainsail is up
  2. When stowing or deploying the cover, ensure the boom is moved aside to avoid rubbing on the Bimini
  3. While sailing, always ensure that their is a generous gap between the Bimini supporting arch and the bottom of the boom (especially when tacking)
  4. When installing a reef in the main, PLEASE ensure that the reefing line at the leach is fully home -- remember to release the vang and the main sheet during this operation to ensure the boom can be fully lifted

The Bimini is an expensive item. Repairs resulting from failure to observe these precautions will be charged to the responsible skipper. For more information see #685.
