Fresh Water Pump - slow flow of water #694

Michelle reported "Crew reported spluttering water flow and so I close the active tank and opened the new tank. However, we are not getting a strong water flow and the pump is making a lower level rumbling noise. I can hear the water flowing where the isolation valves are (a) and (b) I've check that the port tank, which I've switched to, is full. Imaging an air bubble (no that there should be one) I've tried running all the taps and have even opened the deck filler cap. The pump makes the noise all the time not just when you turn on the water. It doesn't make the usual pump noise when you do turn on the water. I've turned the pump off because I don't like the idea of it seemingly running when no water I flowing. If it is on and you turn on a tap it will flow but very slowly. We have filled up a number of jugs trying to let it flow long enough to flow better but to no avail I thought I would check the strainer at the water pump but I cannot get it undone."

Michelle reported that Michael, from SeaPower NZ, visited boat to check on watermaker and water pump.

The aft deck shower is leaking, which contributed to our water supply, water pump and water flow issues.

All tanks now full and water flow is good. So pump is OK. Temporary measure to stop deck shower leak is to fold hose and store folded on gas door (see picture). Michael is ordering parts (the tap I believe) to fix when he does the watermaker 5 to 14 April.

Next booking skipper, Allister Polkinghorne, reported aft shower to be working well. Waiting confirmation that water pump is operating correctly before closing issue.

Alister confirmed both shower and water pump working as intended. Issue closed.
