First rain on the boat — hatch is still leaking. Appears to be via the rubber seal. Needs lubricant?? 66203B74-25C7-470F-8075-BB56499D5C5C 853DA0FA-E577-487B-B675-E1E7AD61678D E5F722C1-3BD5-4225-81C1-7BAF34D8DE48

Rubber seal measures: 10mm wide ~8mm thick

The leak is now severe and we are getting a lot of water in during the recent heavy storms in Sydney.

I suggest we use gaffer tape to seal the hatch opening from the outside until a permanent repair can be done. Raising this to Priority 1 owing to the risk of further damage to galley timber work and water ingress to the bilge.

Steve, The seal above the oven defiantly didn't get replaced, it is compressed and has cracks that only come with age. Could you please send me their invoice so i can check what they charged us for. Im happy to contact them about the works undertaken.

Sam.

Hi Sam, (@SamMcDonald2538)

The work was done by Sea Spray Marine at Boat Work around Nov 22 last year.

They didn't notice the split rubber ring-seal and proceeded to remove the entire hatch assembly from the perspex window, cleaned it and resealed with Sikkaflex. The final result was a hatch still leaking.

I will take this issue up with Alexis (the manager) and seek some compensation. Meanwhile, we have no option but to replace the rubber seal itself. I'll ask Alexis where to source the material.

kind regards Steven

May as well check other hatches for like splits before they start to leak! This hatch has been subject of repairs for a year or so, since at least Opua last year. @CORCpete interested?

CORCpete commented 6 months ago

I did check all the hatches last year (September) when this problem came apparent. I did not find a similar problem. Sent from my iPhoneOn 12 Jan 2024, at 7:55 pm, Paul Baston @.***> wrote: May as well check other hatches for like splits before they start to leak! Hi Alexis,

I hope you are well.

We are still having trouble with the hatch over the sink. The rubber seal appears to be be split and allowing water to seep in (in great volumes) -- see attached photo

Can you please advise where we might be able to source replacement rubber seals for these hatches?

My colleague Sam MacDonald (0458053158) has volunteered to do the repair and he may contact you to discuss.

kind regards Steven

Finding spare has been a problem. @Christopher-w-green has suggested a great idea

  1. swap hatch from the starboarda nav station window
  2. Apply silicon grease liberally
  3. Seal the hatch above the nav station to prevent water ingress

Sounds a neat solution to me

Chris Green has applied zip ties to latches to make them tighter. Hatch has sealed and withstood several heavy downpours without leaks. Temporary repair only.

I'll get the shipwrights at Boatworks to advise what we can do next. Make this priority 2 now.
