House batteries have a limited working life (roughly 5 years?) and they are also vulnerable to damage/destruction through misuse. Replacing all the house batteries costs around #budget=$6000.
A failure of one or more house batteries at sea is a major issue as all comms on board (except for the Satphone) depend on serviceable house batteries. We should do some risk planning around this one.
