Propose text for https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en/database

to replace

The survival data originated from the project “The survival of cancer patients diagnosed 1964-2003 in the Nordic countries”, published in Acta Oncologica issue 5 in 2010, now updated and supplemented with 1-year survival and calculations for more recent periods. Links to the papers can be found at http://www.ancr.nu/cancer-data/cancer-survival/ a) Breast cancer in men and “Pharynx, ill-defined” are not included in the entity “All sites” or in other summary groups when calculating survival. Therefore, the numbers of cases in the quality tables for incidence and for survival are different from the numbers in those groups. .

Dear all

Here is the link to the preprod-version of NORDCAN 9.0. https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en

It is possible to shift between version 8.2 and 9.0 using the dropdown-menu in the lower left corner. Using lock scale and select years 1943-2016 might help to compare the data like here: Version 9.0 https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en/dataviz/trends?data_version=90&set_scale=1&y_max=800&years=1943_2016 Version 8.2 https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en/dataviz/trends?data_version=2019&set_scale=1&y_max=800&years=1943_2016

We need each country to look through the data and statistics by February 14th and send feedback to me on errors, corrections etc. I will forward information and comments to IARC. You are, as usual, responsible for checking how well these data match the official data for your country.

If you have any questions regarding what is included in different entities (that you can’t find information on from the database-page in NORDCAN) or have other questions about conversions etc. I will answer these the best that I can.

Please remember that we have now included the hemacare-groups in addition to the groups we already had for lymphomas and leukaemias in NORDCAN. We have not been able to check these thoroughly during the preproduction since we did not have anything to compare with. Also, we need to see if all of these actually should be displayed in NORDCAN or if we want to hide any of them from view.

Already known issues/things to check

For the secretariat to check/follow up • We have two entities for Acute myeloid leukaemias (404 and 451). They are a little bit different, so I need to figure out why and which to keep (or if we need to rename one of the entitites) • Brain tumors including and excluding endocrine tumors are almost the same for some countries. This might be due to the fact that endocrine tumors are either not included in the registry or not included in the data extraction for NORDCAN. I will follow up on this. • There seems to be slightly different population for older years in 8.2 compared to 9.0 for most countries. See for instance: https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en/dataviz/tables?data_version=90&cancers=160&map_view_per=countries&years=1982 https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en/dataviz/tables?data_version=2019&cancers=18&map_view_per=countries&years=1982 Finland • The Helsinki map region have been update – please check that it is correct https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en/dataviz/maps?data_version=90 • Finland has decimals for case numbers, for instance having 4.2 cases. I am guessing this comes from the fix we did for small numbers for Finland to be able to send data to Finland. Should they be rounded up/down? Having 4.2 cases maybe looks a bit weird?

Denmark/Greenland • Rectum in Greenland seems very high https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en/dataviz/age_specific?mode=population&group_populations=0&multiple_cancers=0&cancers=100&sexes=1&group_cancers=0&key=crude_rate&years_available=1943_2019&data_version=90&show_dots=0&populations=208_234_304_246_352_578_752&types=0 https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en/dataviz/age_specific?mode=population&group_populations=0&multiple_cancers=0&cancers=100&sexes=1&group_cancers=0&key=crude_rate&years_available=1943_2019&data_version=90&show_dots=0&populations=208_234_304_246_352_578_752&types=1 https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en/dataviz/trends?mode=population&group_populations=0&multiple_cancers=0&cancers=100&sexes=1&group_cancers=0&key=crude_rate&years_available=1943_2019&data_version=90&show_dots=0&populations=208_234_304_246_352_578_752&types=0&smoothing=20 • Population prevalence in Denmark 2018 wrong -> prevalence is double https://nordcan-preprod.iarc.fr/en/dataviz/prevalence?mode=population&group_populations=0&multiple_cancers=0&cancers=980&sexes=1_2&group_cancers=0&key=crude_rate&years_available=1943_2019&data_version=90&show_dots=1&populations=208 I will also update the database-table and the notes. Bjarte will write a short text on survival.

Good luck, all! I am very much looking forward to us getting updated data in NORDCAN!

Text is sent to Gerda.

BjarteAAGNES commented 3 years ago

@CotterpinDoozer Can this be issue be closed?

(If needed make a new specific issue on improvement of documentation.)

CotterpinDoozer commented 3 years ago

The issue can be closed. Text on GitHub (linked from NORDCAN) is sufficient for now. We need to revisit the text at the next update to see if we need to make any additions.
