new coder - should we stay here? #37

Since notabadminer started coding/fixing the mod on https://github.com/notabadminer/DimDoors/releases I'm not sure if it's okay to continue reporting bugs here. should we ask him for adding an issues-page to his project and switch over to that?

Soyaro666 commented 9 years ago

what's happening now? CannibalVox is back and this pages are active again? maybe notabadminer could delete his repo and move here? @CannibalVox maybe you could allow notabadminer to directly post code here instead of waiting for you to accept his pull requests so you don't have to apply his changes and he doesn't have to keep his own project page up...?

CannibalVox commented 9 years ago

That's not really hope github works.

CannibalVox commented 9 years ago

How*

Soyaro666 commented 9 years ago

@CannibalVox I guess it's possible to allow other users accepting pull requests, isn't it?

CannibalVox commented 9 years ago

There is nothing magical about this repository. If/when I'm not around, notabadminer can use his. If/when I am, he can submit pull requests. Or he could not do that and I can pull what I want, just like he pulls from mine. There doesn't have to be a single canonical repository. People will use mine or his based on who's more active, who's doing a better job.

CannibalVox commented 9 years ago

Not that I don't appreciate miner's work and his pull requests. But he's not required to submit them or to close up shop just because I'm around, and I'm not required to give him repo control just because he's active.

CannibalVox commented 9 years ago

I'll go ahead and leave this open so people can be aware of miner's work.

Soyaro666 commented 9 years ago

of course they will as long as they know about both. I just wanted to keep it simple. Nevermind; your repo, your decision, of course.

lol, that last decision will do I guess ^^

I just really hate the minecraft modding idea that one person has the right to prevent work on an idea or a repo by fiat. Even though there's no explicit license, stevenrs11 made it clear to me that this is supposed to be 100% open source. You shouldn't have to ask my permission to work on it, or even take it in a totally new direction. Let the players decide democratically.

I guess my point is, this doesn't belong to me- it belongs to everyone. I am using it to add some features to Hexxit II, and I stepped away for a little while because I had some non-Hexxit-II related responsibilities to take care of first. When Hexxit II is over, I will probably not spend much time on this until there's another pack I want to use it in. I'm just a day laborer, I don't own this, and neither does anyone else. Like all open source software, everyone owns it, and the direction is determined by a majority of computing power in the system.

I don't intend on taking over this mod or anything of the sort. A friend asked for a few changes to fix a crash and this repository hadn't shown any activity in months. I made a few changes to stop the most common crash and some startup and shutdown error messages and published a jar with the fixes. Long term support is not what I intended here. If this branch publishes a release that doesn't crash on exiting the personal pocket dimension, I will probably just delete my repo. CannibalVox, If you want help with bugs and I have time, I'm willing to help out. I like this mod and don't want to see it die.

Thank you guys I am glad I can spark some fixes in this incredible mod. I am not code skills so naturally I just pray each day this mod will continue to grow.
