I have recorded the logcat output as it happens along with the sound, hopefully
it'll help you get some insight into the problem [watch out for sudden loudness
in the video :)].
The second part of the video shows a different problem that might be linked to
this one - the popping in Music app when I turn the screen on and off, but for
that problem there doesn't seem to be anything suspicious in logcat output. I
had to reboot the phone since I wasn't able to reproduce it on the first try
(however I can reproduce the notification sound popping every time).
you can watch it online here: http://www.bakterion.com/stuff/aospx_sound_pop/
or download the mp4 video file:

I can confirm this issue with any app that uses sounds in notifications as well
as the popping in the music player when turning the screen on or off. For the
first issue, I think it can be related with the power management of the audio
harware. I have the same "problems" under Linux when I enable the power save
mode in my audio hardware, there is always a cracking sound when playing
something while the audio device is in power save mode. First you heard the
crack, then the music/sound is played without problems.

Anyone else able to verify? Please specify Inspire 4G or DHD. With I4G I do not
experience this, also had a few other I4G users report the same as me...so its
possible its a DHD only issue. Which if it is, it might help narrow it down
some.

I can confirm popping in music player on turning on and off screen. I also
noticed it happens after gsm network is turning on and off, when i completely
loose signal and reconnect to network or when i switch from wifi to gsm
(edge)It seems like many system activities can trigger this pop, click, skip.
Oh and i cant reproduce this during around first 30 seconds of playing (or
maybe little less). My device is DHD. Logcat with turning screen on and off
during playing music attached.

So it looks like all the reports are coming from DHD users only, havent seen an
Inspire user report this yet (nor can I reproduce it on my Inspire). Although I
think the issue where turning the screen on/off may be different. The kernel
includes a patch where it limits the max cpu freq to 652mhz when the screen is
turned off..then resumes the normal max freq when screen is turned back on
(this helps when something is running in the background when screen is off and
keeps it from jumping to 1ghz). Ill see if removing the patch prevents this,
but its more of a skip than a click like whats reported in the OP. But as far
as the 'click' like in the video above, Ive yet to experience this on
Inspire...so if any other users have this issue, please post if your on a DHD
or Inspire.

It's kernel related for sure. I tried last LordClockan bfs kernel and music
plays fine. Little OT but why when I try to dump dmesg log it only saves last
4kB? I'm using terminal emulator:
su
dmesg > /mnt/sdcard/dmesg.txt

If users still have theseissues, you could try these options. These fixes are
from the CodefireX 4.2 page on xda-developers maintained by xda user pnoire.
