Wiped and installed BR2. Same symptoms. Also tried L2TP/PSK same outcome.
logcats of both the PPTP and L2TP sessions are attached.

Ok, so after a little more digging, it seems its not something aospX or device
specific. Ive found the same issue on Epic CM9
http://code.google.com/p/epiccm/issues/detail?id=269
As well as a ticket submitted to AOSP for l2tp timeout..So that one looks to be
a little deeper and we might have to wait till AOSP gets a fix.

Can you get me a dmesg log when trying to connect? That way I can see whats
erroring out on the kernel side.

Can you try this kernel and see if it fixes anything?

I flashed the aospX-kernel-vpn_test.zip in comment 5. Attached is the logcat.
It doesn't look much different to me...

fwiw, here is what i got from a dmesg command. It doesn't look that useful --
but maybe I'm doing it wrong.
I got the phone ready, with the vpn 'connect' button on the screen and good to
go.
I did adb shell, and ran dmesg. noted the time of the last entry.
I touched connect on the phone. It says 'unsuccessful' fairly quickly.
I ran dmesg again and copied all lines after the timestamp i recorded earlier.

BR5 was released a few days ago, can the original reporter or someone who has
already posted please verify one of the following..
"This is still an issue in BR5"
or
"This has been fixed in BR5"

Can someone test this kernel and see if something like OpenVPN or whatever
works?

Reports on xda say OpenVPN is now working with latest test kernel...can the
original reporter or someone like kobeyu double verify with the kernel above?
Since initial reports say VPN is working, im marking this 'Verified ->
FixCommitted'

I have the same problem on aospx BR7 version with PTPP/L2TP IPSK VPN.
I don't have openVPN account So which kernel should I flash to test? :
http://goo.im/devs/existz/test/aospX-kernel-vpn_test.zip
or
http://d-h.st/dFc
In case of second kernel do I need openVPN account to test or it would work for
PTPP/L2TP too?

Use the 2nd one, the first one was already tested and did not fix anything.

Any news for VPN?
I would be the volunteer to test it :D

From what Ive gathered from user reports, VPN is working with the test kernel
above..im not sure what else could be done. If your app points to the vpn
module, make sure its pointing to the correct location
(system/lib/modules/tun.ko)..Other than that I would need a clean logcat log of
the issue with the new test kernel.

Thanks. Just in the case I upgraded to MR1 to see if the problem could be
solved, But the issue still remains. Is the VPN-test-kernel applied to MR1
already? (2.6.35.14-aospx-mint_chocolate root@hp-linux #1) Or I should apply
linked kernel in the comments to the MR1 version too?
I'll give a clean logcat log if the problem remains after your answer.
Thanks
