This could create merge conflicts:

  1. The material you added was in the "Scenes" folder
  2. Since you called the Material "New Material," if someone else did the same thing, and created a new Material called "New Material" but with a different color (because they can't see your "New Material"), it wouldn't know whose "New Material" to use for either cube. Does that makes sense?

If you can, make sure to use a more specific name for things like that that no one else would use (like Lee's Cube Color). Can you do that, commit it, and put through another request?
