Get rid of the JIDE libraries. #385

While I understand that something like this would probably be complex, I only want to create an issue tracking this matter as I've found none.

The JIDE libraries are a huge barrier of entry (as you need to write them an email so that they activate your forum account so that you can download the lib) for developers who want to improve the software, or simply people who prefer compiling from source.

I think huge is a bit of an exaggeration, but I get your meaning. It's a bit of a faff, but not exactly difficult or a huge amount of work, and you only have to do it once. I'm happy to keep this open to track the issue; I do agree that it would be ideal if the program didn't use a commercial library, but as you correctly identify it would be a huge amount of work to replace (and there aren't really any candidates that I'm aware of to replace it with) so I would not count on it ever happening.
