In today's meeting, we realized that two (related) points are not made clear, even though they are used in the tables:
An RSE can not only perform research, but also lead research. An RSE can lead a (?RSE?Research?) group. Imagine a US National Lab group that makes research software and its leader, who might be an RSE.
An RSE can not only support a team (or lead it), but an RSE can also work alone. Imagine a Physicist that likes writing software that maintains a simulation framework by themselves.
The discussion also revolved around the "technician" vs "engineer" point. There are two perspectives:
Technicians should not be seen as an inferior job role, even though the current system does this distinction. See also the Technician Commitment
RSEs are (by the name) engineers, meaning they also design and can see the larger picture (including research)
