Damage Amount #9

We need to determine how much damage we want spells to deal so when designing the spells they are scaled correctly.

Basically should characters and monsters have a high hp or low hp?

Will they have other forms of health such as armor points?

I'm inclined to say low HP.

However, if I have 5-7 cards in my hand at the start of a session, and my goal as GM is to get my players to use a lot of their cards they spent time building their deck with, I want to say mid-high HP with lower damage per spell, with one of our mechanics being the team up ability where players can increase damage greatly by coordinating their cards and being lucky enough to draw them.

I am leaning on mid to high hp. This will largely depend on how many cards we decide the players should start with but we don't want monsters dying too quickly. We will probably have to play with this a lot but I think starting with a general number for damage the spell does will allow us to start making spells and calculate potential damage done per turn which would give us an idea of what hp things should be at.

Spell damage based on level

  1. Level 1 spells: 5 - 7 damage
  2. Leve 2 spells: 8 - 10 damage
  3. Level 3 spells: 11 - 14 damage

With this current pattern. Damage increases about 30% per level. Keeping that formula, we'd be looking at: Level 4: 15 - 18 Level 5: 19 - 23 Level 6: 24 - 30 Level 7: 31 - 39 Level 8: 40 - 51 Level 9: 52 - 66 Level 10: 67 - 86
